Purpose of Music Appreciation

Music at Chapelwood School for Young Children is designed to support the development of a variety of forms of artistic expression.  We provide materials that foster both participation and appreciation.  Arts and crafts materials, rhythm and musical instruments, and books about relevant topics are integrated into the music curriculum with the children.

 

 

Goals of Music Appreciation

Because young children (aged 12-24 months) .  .  .Show an increasing response of rhythms and varied sounds,

· Show an interest in creating interesting effects,

· Show an interest in imitating and experimenting with musical sounds .  .  .

 

Chapelwood School for Young Children provides .  .  .

· Beginning simple rhythm instruments with bells or rattles,

· Sturdy drums,

· Simple hand-cranked music boxes,

· Rubber and wood blocks that rattle or tinkle,                                 

· Tambourines,

· Sand blocks,

· Triangles,

· And rhythm sticks

 

Because Preschool children enjoy

· Hearing and making music alone or in groups,

· Benefit from a variety of instruments for experimentation,

· And love to experiment with pitch, tone, and varied levels of musical sounds . . .

 

Chapelwood School for Young Children provides .  .  .

· A weekly music appreciation class which is a part of the ongoing curriculum presented to all children

· More kinds of rhythm instruments such as castanets, xylophones, experiences with wind instruments, movement to music, and musical finger plays

 

The appreciation for music can be seen through rhythmic movement and songs which children show a great affinity for early in their life.  At Chapelwood School we encourage early musical enjoyment and interest and provide the materials for creative expression.
